Bharatanatyam

To me, to dance is to tell stories, to show expression. Dance is part of my kadhai (story.)

I began my dance journey, at the age of seven, with my guru (teacher) Ms.Priya Krishnan, from the Sindhura School of Dance in Chantilly, Virginia. She taught me the basic foundations of Bharatanatyam. I learned different adavus (dance steps) leading up to full dances, like letters in the alphabet forming words and books.

When I moved to Frisco, Texas, I continued my journey with Ms.Annapoorini (Annam) Saravanan. I trained with her for a year. At the end of the year, I performed with my dance group.

Since 2024, I have been training with my current guru, Ms.Sarita Venkataraman a teacher in Arathi School of Dance. Under her mentorship, I am learning to push the boundaries of my "Kadhai," by exploring new techniques and finding my own rythym.

This year I will receive my "Salangai" - bells tied around your ankles. Every time you tap your feet, the bells will jingle. Receiving your Salangai is a special milestone in one's dance journey, as it marks your growth and progress as a Bharatanatyam dancer.

This is my first animation!

I made my character do a Bharatanatyam Namaskaram - the salutation we do before every dance session.
