Artificial Intelligence Is A Worldwide Concern

Have you ever felt AI is slowly taking over the world? I believe Artificial Intelligence is one of the biggest problems in the world. Here are my reasons #1) AI reduces people’s brain activity, #2) World domination by AI is now possible, and #3) Using Artificial Intelligence causes negative environmental impact.

My first reason is that AI causes people to not think as much. These days, people can just ask AI math problems or answers to questions. They wouldn’t need to think at all. In school, students might use AI to cheat. According to Harvard Graduate School of Education “Of the teens surveyed, many admitted to using AI to cheat on assignments, homework, or tests.” An MIT Lab study found that “ChatGPT users exhibited the lowest brain engagement, with up to 55% reduced neural connectivity compared to those writing without AI.” This shows that using artificial intelligence causes much less brain activity. People rely on AI so much that some don’t even consider it’s possible that AI could make mistakes and give you the wrong information.

Another reason AI is one of the world’s biggest problems is because artificial intelligence could take over the world. Since AI can do many things at once, it could take over many people’s jobs. Companies and businesses are starting to use AI to cover more and more jobs. Since AI doesn't need to be paid a monthly salary, AI can do the same work as multiple people. If you are a consistent AI user, you’ll be used to getting positive comments. You might get a bad impression on your friend, since he or she didn’t reply as AI did, as humans tell the honest truth. This is how using AI makes you expect unrealistic human to human interactions. Once, people tested AI by giving one robot a ball, and the other a bat. The goal was for the robots to trade their items. First, the robots were speaking in English. But after a while, the robots started talking in their own language of beeps and boops, and made the transaction. This shows just how dangerous AI can be.

My last reason is that AI makes a negative environmental impact on the world. One AI-generated sentence equals one whole liter of water used. If so little AI-generated content uses so much water, imagine how much water would be used if there were millions of people using AI everyday. I recently drew an artwork on how data centers are using up so much of the Earth’s water. Earth is a special planet. It’s the only planet that organisms can live on, because it has water. If we take away Earth’s water, humans can no longer exist. AI also contributes to global warming. Have you ever been on your laptop or tablet for so long, it became really hot? That’s the work of technology. Artificial intelligence is part of that. The electricity creates heat, which causes global warming, which, obviously, is a bad thing.

To wrap it all up, if I could solve one problem in the world, it would be ridding the world of artificial intelligence, because it reduces people’s brain activity, AI could take over the world, and using AI causes negative environmental impact.
